About BAS

I was 7 when I came to Bonaire for the first time, on vacation with my diving parents. I immediately fell in love with the island and knew right away that one day, this is where I wanted to live!

I loved the clear blue water and being able to swim, snorkel, fish and sail every day... BBQ's on the beach and exploring the island above and under. I did my first dives in Lac Bay, near the fishermen's dock at Sorobon using a pony bottle my father had rigged with ropes so I could wear it on my back.

Every time a Bonaire vacation came to an end, my parents always had the greatest trouble convincing me to go back home with them. I never wanted to leave. But when I was 12 and after days of continuous begging, they actually left me with friends on the island for six months. I was allowed to stay and finish my elementary school here!!

After I finally moved to Bonaire in 1993 it did not take me long to discover that diving on the windward side of the island is exiting and very rewarding. In the weekends you could find me with two of my local friends exploring the 'other side'.

After 8 years of working an office job here I realized I was a lot happier diving. So I decided to use my knowledge and experience to start guiding divers on Bonaire's East Coast full time. And now, after 12 years of guiding 1000's of East Coast dives and over 35 established East Coast sites, including the most spectacular night dives I am, without a doubt, the most experienced and knowledgeable guide in my field, Bonaire's beautiful East Coast.

I would like to extend a very special thanks to my friends Frits Peereboom and Aloys Lammers for turning me on the East Coast and letting me tag along on all those Saturday morning dives. Without the basic know-how and experience I gained during those dives I would probably still be pushing pencils in the office and dive Angel City in my weekends! Thank you!
